This error message is generated when SpecWare is trying to append newly downloaded data to a data file that has characters after the last line of data. This can happen if the existing file has had data manually added or deleted, or if the file has otherwise been manipulated with a text editor such as Notepad.

Download the data logger again. Instead of saving the data to an existing Logger Location, create a new Logger Location (with a name such as "test"). If SpecWare is able to successfully save the data to this new location, there is probably a problem with the existing data file.

Use Notepad (provided with Windows) to edit each of the current month files.  The year and month are part of the file name.  SpecWare 7 and later have one file per month; earlier releases have one file per sensor per month.  After opening the file, press Ctrl-End.  The cursor should move to the beginning of the line immediately below the last line of data.  If there are one or more blank lines above the cursor, they must be deleted and the file saved.  Press Ctrl-End again to verify that the cursor now goes to the correct location.  Repeat for each of the files.

If this does not solve the problem, contact Spectrum Technologies for technical assistance.
